The Service Lines Strategies Virtual Workshop will include speakers from some of the top orthopedics, cardiovascular, neurosciences, and oncology service lines in the United States, as well as experts from nationally-renowned consulting agencies.

Max Reiboldt,
CPA, President and CEO, The Coker Group, Atlanta, GA
Mr. Reiboldt oversees The Coker Group’s services and general operation, while personally engaging in consulting projects with healthcare organizations nationwide with particular focus on financial management, physician compensation, and strategic issues—such as in all areas of physician-hospital alignment strategies. He is a seasoned speaker at practice management and hospital seminars and workshops where physician leaders learn how to cope in this rapidly changing healthcare environment.
Craig Samitt,
MD, MBA, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dean Health System, Madison, WI
Dr. Samitt leads one of the largest integrated delivery systems in the Midwest. In this position, he is responsible for strategic planning of the health system, as well as the financial, operational and clinical performance of the company’s 500+ doctors, 3,000 staff, and 60 facilities, as well as health plan, retail, and ancillary subsidiaries. Dr. Samitt has served nearly 15 years in senior leadership roles in major healthcare systems, from executive director of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates’ flagship site; to senior vice president of marketing, sales, customer service, and product development and management at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care; to chief operating officer at Fallon Clinic, Inc.

Michael Gibbs,
Vice President, Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND
Gibbs is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has won awards from prestigious organizations such as Witt/Kieffer, the Healthcare Financial Management Association, and the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. He earned a master’s degree in Biomedical Ethics from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and a master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Gibbs has served as adjunct faculty at the University of South Dakota Master’s program (MSAS) in Health Care Management.
Vicki Hoffman
, Director, Orthopedic & Pediatric Service Lines, Stamford (CT) Hospital
Ms. Hoffman is the Director of the Orthopedic & Pediatric Service Lines at Stamford Hospital. She is responsible for leading strategic initiatives for the hospital’s Orthopedic & Spine Institute. This includes working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and ancillary support services. Ms. Hoffman recently led the Orthopedic & Spine Institute in achieving Joint Commission-Disease Specific Certification for 3 programs: Total Hip, Total Knee and Lumbar Spine Fusion. Ms. Hoffman earned a BA from New York University where she was also named the NYU Founder’s Day Scholar and University Honors Scholar.
Wade Johannessen,
PhD, Director, Sg2, Skokie, IL
Johannessen leads the research and development of Sg2’s orthopedic and spine care resources and educational offerings, including advanced analytics, publications, Web seminars, courses, and meetings. Before joining Sg2, Johannessen received a PhD in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania; he has published his research in peer-reviewed journals and presented his findings at national scientific meetings, including the Orthopaedic Research Society, the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine, and the Biomedical Engineering Society.
Ellen M. Komar
, RN, MPA, Director of Heart & Vascular and Women’s Health, Stamford (CT) Hospital.
Komar has more than 20 years of clinical, operations management, and administrative experience in critical care and trauma. Over the past 10 years she has developed, implemented, and managed service lines for neurosciences, transplant, orthopedics, and spine. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in public administration.
John Lee,
MD, Sanford Clinic Ear Nose & Throat, Sioux Falls, SD
Lee’s area of expertise includes Thyroid/Parathyroid Tumors, Parotid Tumors, Throat Tumors, and Endoscopic Removal of Pituitary and Skull Base Tumors. Lee is a graduate of University of Minnesota Medical School (Minneapolis, MN) and completed a fellowship at University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA). Lee holds certifications with the Board of Otolaryngology and the American College of Surgeons and American Head & Neck Surgeons.
William H. Likosky,
MD, Medical Director for Stroke and Telestroke, Swedish Medical Center
Dr. Likosky is a board-certified neurologist with Minor & James Medical PLLC who practices between Swedish’s First Hill and Cherry Hill campuses. In addition to his role at Swedish, Dr. Likosky is chair of the Neurology Department at Minor & James Medical PLLC. He is also a clinical associate professor of neurology at the University of Washington. Dr. Likosky earned his bachelor’s and medical degrees from the University of Vermont, and did a one-year internship in medicine, a one-year residency in medicine, and a three-year residency in neurology at Yale University Hospitals.
Peter McCann,
MD, Chairman, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Beth Israel Medical Center, New York
For more than 20 years, Dr. McCann has focused exclusively on the treatment of shoulder and elbow problems and is known for providing personalized service to his patients. He is also committed to the education of orthopedic surgeons through his nearly 100 presentations at national professional meetings and more than 50 publications. He has been involved in post-graduate education for his entire career and continues to teach in the Shoulder Fellowship program at Beth Israel. However, he is most proud of the high quality of care provided by all members of the orthopedic staff at Beth Israel, which was recently recognized by HealthGrades as “Best in Manhattan for Overall Orthopedic Services.”
Phil Pomeroy

Pomeroy is responsible for business development and strategic planning for the Barrow Neurological Institute, one of the leading neuroscience institutes in the world. Pomeroy’s career includes heading a specialty consulting firm that provided sales and marketing management consulting to hospitals across the country. He regularly speaks on service line development and physician relations, and has consulted with hospitals and corporations regarding strategic planning, quality improvement, sales, and marketing programs.
John W. Ridley,
Executive Director, Oncology Services, Decatur (IL)
Memorial Hospital Mr. Ridley’s responsibilities include radiation oncology, cancer research, cancer registry, and complementary medicine. Under his watch, Decatur Memorial Hospital and Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois, the local oncology physician practice, have recently built a 56,000-square-foot comprehensive cancer center. The Cancer Care Center of Decatur offers all outpatient services to Decatur and the surrounding community.
Lisa H. Slama,
PhD, Director, Sg2, Skokie, IL
Slama leads Sg2’s Cancer Membership, providing executives and service line leaders with information and support to develop leading programs. Prior to joining Sg2, Dr. Slama was a postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University’s Department of Neurobiology and Physiology; she received her PhD in neuroendocrinology from SUNY–Binghamton.
W. Chad Spano,
MD, Sanford Clinic Ear Nose & Throat, Sioux Falls, SD
Spano’s unique area of expertise includes Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery and Microvascular Free Tissue Transfer and Microvascular Free Flap Surgery Human Papillomavirus-related Head & Neck Cancer. Spano is a graduate of University of Louisville Medical School (Louisville, KY) and completed his residency and fellowship at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (Iowa City, IA).
Jonathan Steinberg,
MD, Chief, Division of Cardiology, St. Luke’s-Roosevelt and Director of the Arrhythmia Institute, New York, NY
Dr. Steinberg is a Professor of Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. His clinical specialty is clinical cardiac electrophysiology with emphasis on atrial fibrillation and complex ablation; his research interests include atrial fibrillation, heart failure and resynchronization therapy, and catheter ablation outcomes. Dr. Steinberg attended medical school at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, with residencies at New York University and VA Medical Center, a cardiology fellowship at George Washington University Medical Center, and an electrophysiology fellowship at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.
Verle Valentine
, MD, Sanford Sports Medicine, Sioux Falls, SD
Dr. Valentine is an expert in athletic and activity-type injuries and has served as a team physician in many capacities, including the WNBA, LPGA, and the NBA. He is board certified in family medicine and sports medicine. Currently, Dr. Valentine is the team physician for Augustana College, University of Sioux Falls, and the SkyForce (a semi-pro team), all located in Sioux Falls, SD, and the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. Dr. Valentine received his medical degree from the University of South Dakota.
John Vanderwoude Jr.,

Vanderwoude’s area of expertise includes Vascular Surgery for Carotid Disease, Aortic Disease and Varicose Veins; Thoracic Surgery for Lung Disease and Esophagus Disease; Cardiac Surgery – both adults and children – for open and closed bypass heart surgery, acquired and Congenital Heart Disease, and Valve Disease. Vanderwoude is a graduate of Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis, MO) and completed his residency General Surgery: Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis, MO). Vanderwoude holds certifications from American Board of Surgery, American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and Certificate of Added Qualification in Vascular Surgery.
Jayme Zage,
PhD, vice president, Sg2, Skokie, IL
Zage leads Sg2’s neurosciences membership, where she oversees the development of neurosciences publications and educational offerings, and advises organizations on workforce challenges and innovation adoption. She has expanded Sg2’s offerings into the areas of neurorehabilitation and mental and behavioral health services. Her background includes research in neurobiology and cardiovascular disease, and consulting in the pharmaceutical sector, as well as experience in drug development, marketing and regulatory issues.
